A 7-minute drive from Strathpeffer will take you to Contin Forest Walk, a great hiking area that gives you an exceptional chance to absorb the beauties of the spectacular landscape. There are facilities such as toilets and parkings, and it is a great opportunity for hikers and dog-walkers.

Riverside Chalets and Caravan Park

Riverside Chalets are an amazing place for camping and watching wildlife. This family-run campsite is next to the river Black Water, and it is close to paths leading toward some munros or mountain peaks in the area. People choose this spot for fishing, having picnics, mountain biking, and swimming, too. Among the wildlife you may spot are herons, otters, red kites, and water bats. RSPB Tollie Red Kites Natural Reserve

The reserve is located off the main Ullapool road, and is 13 minutes away from Strathpeffer by car. Facilities such as a visitors’ centre, toilet, and some picnic areas are made available, and the volunteers are ready to help with information about the birds and the reserve itself.

Touchstone Maze

Touchstone Maze is a stone structure in the southeast of Strathpeffer, consisting of 81 large rocks that were gathered from quarries all across the highlands. This modern structure was constructed in 1995 and was developed in alignment with the prehistoric structures famous in the history of Scotland reflecting geology and astronomy. This may not be a historical attraction, but certainly gives an extra artistry to your walk and stroll.

Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club

Described as a ‘hidden gem in the Scottish Highlands,’ Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club is an 18-hole course that dates back to 1888. Its visitors have often admired the maintenance of the field and the great condition of the grass. It is not only a great golf course but also a wonderful spot to have a wholesome panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. 

Castle Leod

Around a mile from Strathpeffer, you will encounter one of the most iconic wonders of the Highlands in Castle Leod. The current structure is believed to have been constructed in the early 17th Century, but there are some aspects of the Castle that reflect the architecture of different periods

The large windows have marks of the 18th Century, and the north of the old tower has Victorian and Edwardian additions. And the red-stone tower house seems to be the earliest part of the Castle, having been erected in the 15th Century. 

You may take a tour inside the Castle as well and its welcoming and friendly staff will treat you to any information you need regarding the life and family history of the Castle.

Highland Museum of Childhood

For anyone interested in the historical account of the Highlands’ children, Highland Museum of Childhood provides a wonderful opportunity. The museum is within a beautiful old station and presents all the crafts and handiworks associated with the learning and schooling of the children of the Highlands. There are also displays and activities reflecting the customs and folklore of the area.

Next to the museum is the Museum Cafe, where you can try the best food and excellent drinks at reasonable prices. The gift shop is another treat for your enjoyment and kids’ entertainment.

Neil Gunn Memorial Viewpoint

Located near the heights of Brae, Neil Gunn Memorial celebrates the life and legacy of Neil Miller Gunn (1891-1973), one of the leading writers of Scottish Renaissance of 1920s and 30s. With a magical panoramic view of the surroundings, this spot is wonderful for catching a break and a perfect location for meditation.



Transportation in Strathpeffer

The nearest bus station to Strathpeffer is Park Avenue, which is around 11 minutes on foot. Bus line 27 is the one that stops near Strathpeffer, whose starting point is Irviness Bus Station. The village currently does not have a train station active.
